Roi Porat

 is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Haifa. He has been a researcher at the Israel Cave Research Center (ICRC) since 2003. Over the years, he has conducted cave mapping, speleological studies, and archaeological surveys in numerous caves across Israel.  He gained his PhD in Archaeology, The Hebrew University (2022). His research focuses on classical periods, particularly on the time of Herod and the period of the Jewish Revolts against the Romans in Judea (1-2 CE), in the Judean Desert, including forts, caves and cliff environments. He is the director of the Herodium Expedition, under the auspices of the Institute of Archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2010-2024). Roi also headed of the field team in the DEADSEA-ECO (ERC-Stg) project (2019-2024, N. Marom) and in the BOSTAN-TREE (ERC-Adv) project (G. Bar-Oz, 2023-2025).
