Anton Vaks

is a researcher in the Geological Survey of Israel. He conducted research with the Israel Cave Research Center (ICRC) since 1998. He is U-series chronology specialist who uses the speleothem record in desert and semi-desert caves in Israel for paleoclimate studies, mainly for reconstruction of the humid phases in northern Saharan-Arabian desert belt, correlation of these humid phases with global climate change and with out of Africa migration of hominids. Anton also works in Siberian caves in order to reconstruct the history of Siberian permafrost and interconnections between its formation and thaw cycles and global climate. He also uses speleothem record to study tectonic history of the Levant region, mainly by chronology of phreatic speleothems and timing of uplift phases that caused their uplifted above the groundwater level and covered by vadose speleothems. Anton also assists archaeological studies by dating young carbonates associated with the archaeological sites.
